History
The East Cambridge Business Association was born as a result of a series of networking groups organized by Shelley Neill of the
Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center (CMAC). Shelley, in collabortation with the Cambridge Arts Council, had organized the Consortium of Arts, Business, and Leisure with a vision of better activating the East Cambridge atmosphere for businessess and residents alike.
After attending these meeting, a few East Cambridge business owners decided it was time that East Cambridge establish its own business associaiton. One year later the East Cambridge Business Association had its first official meeting.
Philosophy
In order to have a great business you need to have great clientele, which is why we want to be sure that a business that is supported by the community is a business that supports the community. Good business is good for everyone. An active streetscape is safer for residents, and an active streetscape brings better business.
East Cambridge has a long standing tradition of family run businesses. Some establishments have been here since the early 1900's and are still operated by the families that started them. We want to continue the historical traditions and preserve the character of our unique neighborhood. By working together with the community and by working toward improving our businesses we hope to make East Cambridge a better place to live and work.
